ShweLearn Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

ShweLearn ("we," "us," "ShweLearn") operates an online course marketplace connecting teachers and students in Myanmar, available at shwelearn.net and related subdomains.

2. Information we collect

Account information. When you create an account, we collect a display name, username, email address, and role (student, teacher, or admin-created account). Teacher accounts may also include a bio, headline, and bank/payout details for receiving earnings.

Demographic information (students, optional). Date of birth, country, region/state, and township. Collection is optional and skippable — you can decline without losing access to the platform. We use this in aggregate, anonymized form to understand our audience and help teachers decide what courses to build; we do not sell or share individual-level demographic data.

Payment information. ShweLearn currently uses a manual payment-receipt process: when you enroll in a paid course, you upload a photo or file showing proof of payment (e.g., a bank transfer or mobile wallet receipt), which an admin reviews and approves. We store the uploaded receipt image and the payment amount/course reference. We do not collect or store card numbers, bank passwords, or wallet PINs — those never pass through our systems.

Content you create. Courses, lessons, videos, and materials you upload (teachers); questions, homework submissions, notes, reviews, and support/feedback requests you post (students).

Usage and activity data. Course progress, video-watch activity, quiz/assignment completion, login timestamps, and similar activity needed to run the platform (e.g., resuming a video where you left off, generating a completion certificate).

Technical data. Standard web request data (IP address, browser type, device type) collected automatically for security and reliability purposes.

3. How we use your information

  • To operate your account and deliver the courses/content you're enrolled in or have published.
  • To process payments (via the manual receipt-review flow described above) and pay out teacher earnings.
  • To generate completion certificates and watermark video content with your account identifier, for content-protection purposes.
  • To communicate with you about your account, enrollments, Q&A/homework activity, support requests, and payment status.
  • To improve the platform and understand our audience in aggregate (using demographic data as described above).
  • To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service.

4. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in these cases:

  • With your teacher or students, limited to what's needed for the course relationship (e.g., a teacher can see the display name of a student enrolled in their course to answer questions or grade homework; reviews show a truncated name — first name and last initial only — never your full name).
  • With service providers who help us run the platform: our hosting provider (Vercel), our database provider (Supabase), our video hosting/streaming provider (Bunny.net), and our error-monitoring provider (Sentry, used to detect and fix bugs — technical crash data only, never your course content or payment details).
  • If required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of ShweLearn, our users, or the public.

5. Data retention

We keep your account and activity data for as long as your account is active, plus a reasonable period afterward for legal, accounting, and dispute-resolution purposes. You can request deletion of your account at any time (see Section 7).

6. Data security

We use industry-standard practices to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), row-level database access controls, and short-lived signed URLs for private content (videos, uploaded files) rather than public links. No system is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

7. Cookies and local storage

We use a small number of strictly-necessary cookies and browser storage entries to run the platform — there are no third-party advertising or tracking cookies. These include: your login session (so you stay signed in), your saved language preference, and locally-saved drafts of personal lesson notes (kept only on your device, never sent to our servers). Because these are all necessary for the site to function, we don't offer an opt-out toggle, but we do show a one-time notice on your first visit so this is transparent. See Section 6 for how we secure this data.

8. Your rights and choices

You can review and update most of your account information directly in your account settings. You can decline to provide optional demographic information at signup or later. To request a copy of your data or deletion of your account, use the Help/Support form in your account, or email support@shwelearn.net.

9. Children's privacy

ShweLearn is a general-audience learning platform and may be used by students under 18. If you're a parent or guardian of a student using ShweLearn, we encourage you to be involved in and aware of their account activity. We collect only the account and demographic information described in Section 2, and demographic collection is always optional. If you believe a child has provided us information beyond what's needed for their account without appropriate awareness, contact us at support@shwelearn.net and we'll address it.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll update the "last updated" date above when we do. Material changes will be communicated via the platform.
